The budding bromance between Mitt Romney and Donald Trump was put to the test on live television Tuesday.
Just hours before Trump was to host a fundraiser for Romney in Las Vegas, the Republican business magnate picked a fight with CNN's Wolf Blitzer over President Barack Obama's birth certificate.
After castigating CNN for mentioning the birther issue, Trump reasserted his belief that Obama was born in Kenya.
"Obama does not like the issue of where he was born," Trump told Blitzer. "He does not like that issue because it's hitting very close to home. You know it, and he knows it."
The conversation went downhill from there:
BLITZER: Donald, you're beginning to sound a little ridiculous, I have to tell you.
TRUMP: No I think you are, Wolf. Now let me tell you something, I think you sound ridiculous, and if you'd ask me a question and let me answer it --
BLITZER: Here's the question, did the conspiracy start in 1961 where the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and the Honolulu Advertiser contemporaneously published announcements that he was born in Hawaii?
TRUMP: That's right. That's right. And many people put those announcements in because they wanted to get the benefit because of getting so-called born in this country. Many people did it. It was something that was done by many people even though they weren't born in the country. You know and so do I... And so do a lot of your viewers. Although you don't have too many viewers.
While Trump implied that Romney also doubted the the president's origins, the GOP presidential candidate has said a number of times he believes Obama was born in the United States.
