Newt Gingrich released Tuesday what can be best described as a teaser for the formal suspension of his campaign on Wednesday. In the video, Gingrich explains that he wants to give his supporters "insider advance notice" that he will suspend his campaign, and he thanks his donors and volunteers for their help in running a "terrific campaign."
The advance notice is a bit late, though, as Fox News first reported on April 25â€"the day after Mitt Romney pulled off a clean sweep in five primariesâ€"that Gingrich would suspend his campaign sometime this week.

Prior to that, despite multiple setbacks to his campaignâ€"including bouncing a $500 check required to file for the Utah primary, his think tank filing for bankruptcy, and the chasm between his delegate total and those of Mitt Romney and Rick Santorumâ€"Gingrich pushed forward with the hope that he might win Delaware's primary. Romney ended up winning that state as part of the five-state primary romp.
The day before the primary in Delaware, Gingrich acknowledged that if he lost, he would have to "reassess" his campaign.
Gingrich told USA Today Tuesday that he will support Mitt Romney. Romney and the RNC will, in turn, be helpful as Newt works to retire the $4.3 million in debt he has accrued throughout his campaign.
Newt explained that he had no regrets about running for president, but he added, "I have regrets about not being smarter about how to run."
