"Joe the Plumber," the Ohio man who became a minor celebrity during the 2008 presidential campaign, claims The Holocaust happened because of German gun control in a video for his congressional campaign.Â
 The video features footage of Samuel Wurzelbacher, shooting fruit and vegetable targets with a shotgun while explaining how gun control led to both The Holocaust and Armenian genocide.
"In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated," Wurzelbacher says, after a near-identical statement about the Armenian genocide 20 years earlier.
The ad ends with Wurzelbacher facing the camera, on an improvised shooting range, shotgun in hand, saying "I love America."
Wurzelbacher became a near-household name in the 2008 presidential campaign after he criticized then-candidate Obama's tax policy. He is now running as a Republican candidate for Ohio's 9th district congressional seat.
His spokesman, Phil Christofanelli, told Politicker there was "nothing offensive" about the video, adding that Wurzelbacher considers himself a student of history and therefore a firm believer in the Second Amendment.
